Det. Joseph G. Skowronski, 65, a retired Nassau County police detective, has been identified as the victim of the fatal pedestrian car accident in Carle Place, police said. Skowronski was attempting to cross on foot Old Country Road near Cherry Lane when he was struck by a 1995 Nissan Maxima at around 3:40 p.m.  

The driver of a rental car injured six people after crashing the vehicle into a church van in Queens, officials said.   The driver of the 2016 Ford rental car went through a stop sign and struck the 2000 Dodge van on Shore Avenue and Princeton Street in Jamaica at around 11 p.m., police said.
