Man Struck And Killed In Astoria Hit-And-Run

A 45-year-old man was fatally struck by a car in a hit-and-run accident in Astoria, police said. The man, whose identity has not been released, was struck at the intersection of 21st Street and 30th Road around 11 p.m., officials said.

The victim was taken to Elmhurst General Hospital where he was pronounced dead, police said.

No immediate arrests have been made.

The same intersection has been the scene of several traffic incidents, including four people who were injured in 2014, two in 2015 and three people during the first four months of 2016, according to city data.

Despite calls by neighbors and a study by the Department of Transportation to see if a traffic stop was warranted there, the city has deemed it unnecessary for the dangerous intersection.

For grieving families, it’s important that a full investigation be conducted. For that, a wise first step is to discuss the matter with a legal professional experienced in car accidents.
