Bella Krementsova, 58, was struck and killed by a bus at Trinity Place and Exchange Alley in the Financial District, officials said. Cops issued a summons for bus driver, Roger Weckworth, 63, for failure to yield to a pedestrian causing injury, officials said.
Krementsova was crossing the street when she was struck near the Staten Island Ferry Terminal near State and Water Streets by a QM7 bus, according to police and sources, and dragged several blocks to Trinity Place and Edgar Street.
People began flagging the driver down to stop, officials said. Weckworth had initially stopped the bus at Trinity Place to inspect the bus underneath.
According to witnesses, the driver claimed that the body was a prank and proceeded to drive on. However, a police officer ordered the bus to stop again and the driver was immediately taken to Beth Israel Hospital for an evaluation, officials said.
