Montauk Woman Killed After Car Crash With Gas Truck

Janis Hewitt, 63, of Montauk, was killed after her car was struck by a gas truck near a transfer station, police said.

The truck’s driver, David Kelleher, 42, of Mastic, was driving westbound on Route 27 when Hewitt’s 2005 Chrysler PT Cruiser, crossed into the westbound lane from the eastbound lane and collided with the truck.

Hewitt was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. Kelleher was transported to Southampton Hospital with minor injuries and released, police said.

For grieving families, it’s important that a full investigation be conducted. For that, a wise first step is to discuss the matter with a legal professional experienced in car accidents.
