Drunk Driver Fatally Strikes Manhattanville College Student

Robert Schartner, 21, of Fishkill, was fatally struck by a drunk driver at the intersection of Westchester Avenue and Anderson Hill Road in White Plains, officials said. Schartner was a dedicated lacrosse player at Manhattanville College, police and relatives said.

Schartner was walking back to school at 5 a.m. when he was struck by a 2012 Nissan Sentra driven by Emma Fox, 24, of Rye. Fox continued to drive for three blocks before stopping to check out the damage to her car, police said.

When emergency responder arrived, Schartner was pronounced dead at the scene.

Fox was arrested and charged with vehicular manslaughter and aggravated DWI. Her blood-alcohol content was more than double the legal limit, according to police.

For grieving families, it’s important that a full investigation be conducted. For that, a wise first step is to discuss the matter with a legal professional experienced in car accidents.
