Mercedes Driver Injures Two Passengers, Five Highway Workers

An out-of-control Mercedes-Benz driver injured five highway repair workers in a car crash on the Cross Island Parkway near the Douglaston Parkway, officials said.

The driver crashed into highway repair scaffolding and struck the back of a Tully Construction box.

The driver abandoned the car and fled the scene. The driver left two injured men in the passenger seats, officials said.

Four of the five workers were taken to North Shore University Hospital, along with the Mercedes passengers. One of the workers was seriously injured and the others suffered minor injuries, police said. One person refused medical attention.

Police were looking for the driver, who could face charges for leaving the scene of an accident.
