Gen Zhan, 81, of Kips Bay, was struck by an ambulance at the intersection of 14th Street and Second Avenue, officials said.
He was taken to Bellevue Hospital in critical condition. He was later pronounced dead from his injuries, police said.
A 22-year-old man was driving the ambulance when he made a left-turn and struck Zhan in the crosswalk. The driver stayed at the scene.
