Zaalika Rasool, 41, was killed and three others were injured after a speeding BMW driver slammed into a car in South Ozone, Queens on Sunday, officials said.
According to surveillance footage, the driver of a black BMW X5 was speeding along 115th Avenue when the driver drove past a red light and struck a red Toyota Corolla on 130th Street. Rasool, her 9-year-old daughter, Sarah, and a 71-year-old man were passengers in the Corolla while Rasool’s 47-year-old husband was the driver at the time of the crash.
The impact of the crash ejected the mother and daughter from their seats and sent them flying onto the street. The mother was pronounced dead at the scene. The daughter and the 71-year-old man in the Toyota were taken to Long Island Jewish Hospital.
The driver of the BMW struck three parked cars after the crash before stopping. The driver fled the scene although a 46-year-old passenger was left behind in the vehicle. The passenger was taken to Jamaica Hospital and was treated for non-life threatening injuries, officials said.
For grieving families, it’s important that a full investigation be conducted. For that, a wise first step is to discuss the matter with a legal professional experienced in car accidents.
