A drunk off-duty police officer fatally struck one man and injured three others in Williamsburg on Saturday morning, officials said. At around 3 a.m. on Saturday, the officer, Nicholas Batka, 28, was turning his gray 2012 Dodge Durango from North Eighth Street onto Bedford Avenue when his vehicle mounted the sidewalk and struck the four victims, officials said.
Andrew Equisdel, 21, was rushed to Bellevue Hospital where he was pronounced dead, police said.
A 23-year-old woman and a 22-year-old woman were also taken to Bellevue Hospital. They were listed in stable condition, officials said. Another victim, a 24-year-old man was taken to NewYork Presbyterian Hospital-Weill Cornell. He is also in stable condition, officials said. The identities of the three injured victims were not released.
Batka, 28 was taken to Weill Cornell and listed in stable condition.
Batka was suspended by the NYPD and charged with manslaughter and vehicular manslaughter, including three counts of assault, driving while intoxicated, driving while ability impaired and driving on the sidewalk.
