Olga Ilina, 54, of Fair Lawn, N.J., was fatally killed in a car crash when a man in a stolen minivan drove the wrong way up the Henry Hudson Parkway and struck her car, police said.
Jean Herrera, 23, of Washington Heights, was driving a stolen Dodge Caravan with a 34-year-old man when he struck some parked cars on Eighth Avenue while getting onto the West Side Highway at West 59th Street, police said.
He drove north on the southbound lane and eventually struck a southbound Subaru carrying a 53-year-old male driver and Ilina, his passenger, police said.
Ilina was rushed to Mount Sinai St. Luke’s Hospital where she was pronounced dead. The Subaru’s driver was taken to the same hospital and was listed in stable condition.
Herrera was also treated at the same hospital, but was later arrested and charged with manslaughter, assault, reckless endangerment, reckless driving and other traffic related criminal charges, police said.
His passenger was taken to New York-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center, officials said.
For grieving families, it’s important that a full investigation be conducted. For that, a wise first step is to discuss the matter with a legal professional experienced in car accidents.
