Worker Killed By Falling Plank At West Village Construction Site

Louis Mata, 32, of Port Chester, was killed when he was struck by a fallen wooden plank at a construction site, police said. He was hit on the premises of the 421 Hudson Street construction site, around 5 p.m., fire officials said.

Mata was brought to Lenox Health Greenwich Village with severe neck and back injuries. He was pronounced dead at the hospital, officials said.

According to the Department of Buildings website, the site received two violations in March for improper electrical work. Meanwhile, the project received 20 complaints from people ranging from alleged failure to safeguard plumbers, illegal appliance hook-ups and blocking exits since February.
