Stolen SUV Kills 1, Injures Another In Brooklyn

A driver in a stolen SUV lost control and struck two people on the sidewalk in Brooklyn, police said. Chooi Tan, 51, of Canarsie, was killed in the crash, and her husband was injured, police said.

The accident happened at East 94th Street and Avenue K in Canarsie at 12:50 p.m. when a stolen gray Toyota 4Runner collided with a red sedan “at a high rate of speed.” The SUV then veered into a sidewalk and struck Tan and her 57-year-old husband, Mun Khor. The Toyota crashed into a white iron fence and wall before stopping.

The SUV driver and another man fled the vehicle. The sedan’s driver remained at the scene.

Tan was rushed to Brookdale University Hospital, where she was pronounced dead, officials said. The husband was in stable condition, and the 20-year-old sedan driver suffered minor injuries, but was in stable condition as well.

For grieving families, it’s important that a full investigation be conducted. For that, a wise first step is to discuss the matter with a legal professional experienced in car accidents.
