One person was injured after a car wreck at 12th Avenue and 57th Street in Borough Park at around 10:45 p.m., officials said.
The hit-and-run driver, Haroon Butt, 27, fled the scene on foot, with his cat in his arms. He later came upon a parked Toyota with keys left in the ignition, and hijacked it, police said.
He was eventually stopped by police and arrested at 13th Avenue and 58th Street. He gave police a hard time when they were trying to get the cat out of his arms, according to officials and witnesses.
He was taken to Bellevue Hospital for observation.
Butt was charged with resisting arrest, grand larceny of an auto, leaving the scene of an accident with an injury and unauthorized use of a vehicle.
