Ambulette Driver Faces Charges After Fatally Striking Man In Flushing

Ramon Ortiz, 55, of Bergen Beach, was charged with failure to yield to a pedestrian after he struck and killed a 57-year-old man in Flushing, Queens, officials said.

 

The victim, whose identity has not been released, was crossing 35th Avenue in the crosswalk when he was hit by Ortiz’s Ford Suburban. The SUV was registered to Service Ride Transportation.

 

Ortiz remained at the scene. The victim was taken to New York Presbyterian Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said.
