Man Fatally Struck By Van In South Bronx

A man in his early 30s was struck and killed by a van as he was crossing the street in the South Bronx on Thursday, police said. The man was crossing Jerome Avenue near Shakespeare Avenue at around 7:20 p.m.

Danny Telpha, 59, a plumber who lives in the Bronx, was driving the 2002 Ford Econoline van that struck the man. “I didn’t see him. He came out of nowhere,” Telpha said. “I felt him – boom, boom. I stopped and there he was on the ground.”

The victim was rushed to Lincoln Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Police made no arrests. The investigation is ongoing.

For grieving families, it’s important that a full investigation be conducted. For that, a wise first step is to discuss the matter with a legal professional experienced in car accidents.
