Man Critically Injured From Tire Blowout On Grand Central Parkway

A 63-year-old man was in critical condition after a wheel flew off another car and struck his vehicle on the Grand Central Parkway, according to reports. The accident happened at around 2 p.m. near the Cross Island Parkway in Queens on Saturday.

A Mazda Tribute was traveling in the westbound lane when its wheel flew off. The tire went over the median and struck the passenger side window of a silver Toyota SUV in the eastbound lane.

The passenger in the Toyota, a 63-year-old man who has not been identified, was taken to North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset and was treated for head trauma. The driver, a 62-year-old man who was also not identified, was taken to North Shore Hospital with a shoulder injury.

A 27-year-old woman was the driver of the Mazda. She was driving with her 15-month-old daughter. Both were unharmed by the accident, but they were also taken to the hospital, police said.
