Elderly Woman Killed By Livery Cab In Midtown

Carol Dauplaise, 77, was killed after being struck by a livery cab while she was crossing Madison Avenue at East 36th Street at around 8:35 a.m., police said. She was carrying a suitcase when she was struck by the black Toyota Avalon.

Around 10 good Samaritans tried to rescue Dauplaise who was pinned underneath the car. They flipped the vehicle on its side in order to get to her. She was rushed to Bellevue Hospital Center, however, she was pronounced dead from the injuries she sustained.

The cab driver, Buddhi Gurung, 49, stayed at the scene and was cooperating with the police. He was turning left on Madison Avenue from East 36th Street and failed to yield to the victim as she crossed the street, police said. He was charged with failure to yield to a pedestrian and failure to exercise due care, the authorities said.

For grieving families, it’s important that a full investigation be conducted. For that, a wise first step is to discuss the matter with a legal professional experienced in car accidents.
