An elderly woman, believed to be in her late 70s or 80s, was seriously injured after she was struck by a private garbage truck in Midtown early Wednesday morning, officials said.
The women, whose identity has not been released, was crossing East 58th Street and Third Avenue when the truck clipped her. She was transported to New York-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center, and was listed in serious condition, police said.
The driver, unaware of the accident, kept going but stopped and returned to the scene after witnesses flagged him down. He remained at the scene to answer questions with investigators.
No charges were expected to be filed against the driver, police said.
