A 29-year-old man was critically injured after he crashed his scooter in a cab on the Upper East Side, police and witnesses said.
The man was riding on Fifth Avenue near East 85th Street at 3:15 a.m. when he collided with the cab. The victim, who has not been identified, flew off the scooter and hit a tree. He was wearing a helmet at the time.
When the car collided with the scooter, it hit a wall and suffered front-end damage. Witnesses said the cab driver tried to avoid the scooter.
The victim was transported to New York Presbyterian-Weill Cornell Medical Center. The cab driver was not hurt, police said. There were three female passengers in the cab. It was unclear if they were hurt.
The driver of the scooter may have run a red light, officials said. Police were still investigating.
