Thomas Violante, 72, of Great Kills was fatally struck by a driver of a sports utility vehicle, police said. Violante was crossing Hylan Boulevard at Buffalo Street at 9:28 a.m. when the driver of a 2011 Ford Explorer driving northbound on Buffalo Street hit him.
Violante was rushed to Staten Island University Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, officials said.
The driver, only identified as a 75-year-old person, remained on the scene. No charges have been made, police said.
