A 64-year-old man was seriously injured after being hit by an MTA bus on the Lower East Side on Monday, officials said. The man, who has not been identified, was using a cane to apparently cross Jackson Street when the M22 bus made a left turn at Madison and Jackson Streets and struck the man.
More than half a dozen firefighters and emergency responders were at the scene near the front wheel of the bus on the driver’s side. According to reports, the man was taken to a hospital with a serious arm injury.
The Lower East side accident marks the third time this month that an MTA bus struck a pedestrian. A 59-year-old woman was struck and killed by an MTA bus in the Queens earlier this month and a 7-year-old woman was struck and killed by an out of service MTA bus in Brooklyn days later.
