Elderly Woman Killed By Car Crash In Upper West Side

A pedestrian was struck and killed by a driver in the Upper West Side on Saturday, officials said. The 86-year-old woman, who has not been identified, was struck at West End Avenue and West 64th Street.

She was traveling east across West End Avenue when the driver of a 2002 Toyota Camry struck her while traveling north. The driver remained at the scene.

The victim was taken to St. Luke’s Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

The incident comes hours after New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio discussed how his “Vision Zero” plan for reducing the number of injured or killed pedestrians on city streets was working. Eight pedestrians were killed in car accidents in the past week alone. The 86-year-old woman brings the total to nine.
