An elderly woman was struck and killed by a taxi cab in the Upper West Side on Sunday morning, according to reports. The incident happened at West 109th Street and Columbus Avenue at 12:49 a.m.
Luisa Rosario, 88, who lived on West 110th Street, was attempting to cross the street at 109th Street when she was struck by a taxi making a right turn.
When emergency responders arrived at the scene, they found Rosario lying on the pavement. She was “unconscious and unresponsive with trauma.” The victim was rushed to St. Luke’s Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
The driver, Salifu Abubkar, 73, was arrested and charged with failure to yield to a pedestrian.
