11-Year-Old Girl Critically Injured In Car Crash In L.I.

An 11-year-old girl was in critical condition after she flung from a car involved in a two-car crash in Long Island on Sunday morning, police said. Two other people, including a nine-year-old were injured in the accident as well.

Iris Hernandez of Bay Shore was driving her 2001 Nissan Xterra northbound on Wheeler Road in Hauppauge when she crashed head-on into a Hauppauge Fire Department chief’s vehicle going the opposite direction, officials said.

Her daughter, Ismeily Perdomo-Hernandez, was ejected from the vehicle. Ismeily was rushed to Stony Brook University Hospital in critical condition. Hernandez’s two children, Inmer Perdomo-Hernandez, 9, and sister Cindy Hernandez, 29, were also treated for non-life threatening injuries, officials said.

The driver of the fire department vehicle, who was not identified, was also transported to Stony Brook for treatment with non-life threatening injuries, officials said.

According to reports, Hernandez said she had lost control of the vehicle which caused her to spin into oncoming traffic.

Officials are still investigating the accident.
