Hempstead Lawyer Released On Bail After DWI, Manslaughter Charge

Raj Jadeja, 34, a Hempstead lawyer from Brooklyn, was released on bail sunday after pleading not guilty to manslaughter in an alcohol-related crash that killed George Ragotte, 21, of Ronkonkoma on the Long Island Expressway, police said.

Ragotte had slowed his car to avoid the wreckage of two cars that had sideswiped each other on the expressway near Sunnyside Boulevard when his car was struck by a 2012 BMW sedan driven by Jadeja.

Ragotte was taken to Nassau University Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead, officials said. Jadeja was also taken to a hospital where he was treated for minor injuries.

Jadeja was charged with driving while intoxicated (DWI), second-degree manslaughter, vehicular manslaughter and second-degree reckless driving, police said.
