Truck Strikes, Kills Man At Hunts Point Produce Market

A man was struck and killed by a tractor trailer at the New York City Terminal Produce Market in the Bronx on Sunday morning, authorities said.

The victim, who was a truck driver, was struck by a tractor-trailer that was backing up just after he got out of the cab of his truck, police said.

The man, who has been identified as Hussain Abbas, 63, of Montreal was rushed to Lincoln Hospital. He suffered severe body trauma and was later pronounced dead at the hospital, according to reports.

“It’s a dangerous place to work,” Danny Garcia, a foreman for one of the businesses at the Hunts Point market, said. “I’ve been working here for 14 years, and I’ve seen a lot of accidents in the past.”

No arrests have been made.
