One person has died after being struck by a Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) train at Mineola Station around 11:30 p.m. on Sunday, officials confirmed. The victim’s identity has not yet been released.
An “unauthorized person” had entered the tracks and was killed on the tracks of the station, according to authorities. The train was scheduled to arrive at Penn Station in Manhattan at 11:59 p.m. from Ronkonkoma.
LIRR service was immediately suspended in both directions on the Ronkonkoma, Port Jefferson and Oyster Bay Lines after the accident. Officials said the suspensions would likely not affect Monday morning’s commute.
Authorities are investigating the death.
