Brooklyn Bridge Car Crash Leaves Seven Injured

An alleged drunk driver injured seven people and caused a three-vehicle accident on the Brooklyn-bound side of the Brooklyn Bridge on Monday at around 4:50 a.m., officials said.

Alberto Calderon, 31, was driving his 2004 Lexus 330 when he slammed into the back of a disabled 2012 Honda, which was parked in the right lane with its hazard lights on. Calderon then tried to back up and drive around the car, but he was T-boned by a sedan, which caused his car to overturn.

Calderon was transported to New York Methodist Hospital in Park Slope with minor back injuries, while his rear-seat passenger and friend, Alex Rijos, 32, had ejected from the car and was being treated at Bellevue Hospital in critical condition, the authorities said.

The four people in the Honda and the driver of the sedan were all transported to hospitals with mild to serious injuries.

Calderon was charged with driving while ability impaired, police said.
