West Islip Woman Killed in Car Crash

A West Islip woman was killed in a head-on collision with a truck at the intersection of Higbie Lane and Union Boulevard in West Islip, Long Island, on Tuesday morning, according to police.

Julia Schweers, 19, a graduate of St. John the Baptist High School, was fatally injured when her 2011 Toyota Camry collided with a Mitsubishi box truck that was attempting to make a left turn onto Union Boulevard, police said.

Schweers was rushed to the Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center where she was pronounced dead, authorities said.

Antonio Reyes, 45, of Perth Amboy, N.J., was the driver of the truck and did not sustain any injuries.

A police investigation is still under way. No criminal charges have been filed.

For grieving families, it’s important that a full investigation be conducted. For that, a wise first step is to discuss the matter with a legal professional experienced in car accidents.
