Alonso Mendez, 36, of Garden City, was arrested for drunk driving with his two-year-old son in the car, after he was involved in a minor car accident on Hempstead Turnpike and Front Street on Sunday evening.
When police pulled over Mendez and the other vehicle involved in the crash, they found Mendez with bloodshot eyes and a strong odor of alcohol from his breath, according to police. Mendez’s wife and his two-year-old son were passengers in the car.
Mendez was arrested and the child was released to his mother at the scene, according to reports. He was charged with a DWI and endangering the welfare of a child.
