Mother of 2, Nydja Herring, Killed By Drunk Driver, Augustus Jenkins, While Crossing East Tremont Avenue In The Bronx

A driver was charged with DWI and driving without a license after he struck and killed a 32 year-old woman crossing the street in The Bronx on Saturday afternoon. Police identified the victim as Nydja Herring. Herring is a mother of twins.

Herring was crossing East Tremont Avenue at Van Nest Avenue around 5:30 p.m. when she was hit by the driver of a Volkswagen traveling east on East Tremont. Herring lived about a block away and was going across the street to buy something for a party when she was negligently struck.

Augustus Jenkins, a 28 year-old from Montgomery, was charged with DWI and aggravated unlicensed operation of a vehicle. A woman and two children, a 4 year-old and a 10 year-old, were in the car with Jenkins at the time of the collision.

One of the main jobs of a good law firm is to determine how many insurance policies may be responsible for compensating a family in a wrongful death case. We would investigate if the drunk driver was driving someone else’s car, and if so, whether the owner was negligent in lending their vehicle to an unlicensed driver.  We would also look into whether the drunk driver was working at the time of the accident and whether his employer would be liable.
