Fuel truck overturns, 2 injured near Newbridge Road, Bellmore on Sunrise Highway in Long Island

A fuel truck overturned and burst into a fireball on Sunrise Highway Tuesday night, injuring two.

The scene unfolded when an out-of-control car rear-ended a gas truck at a red light near Newbridge Road in Bellmore just before midnight, overturning the truck and spewing 7,000 gallons of fuel onto the streets, sparking flames as high as 20-feet.

The driver of both vehicles were taken to local hospitals and were expected to survive the accident.

The collision and subsequent wreck damaged 12 parked cars and four homes nearby.

Fuel coated the streets and flames stretched to a nearby Auto Zone and Harley-Davidson motorcycle dealership.
