32 Year-Old Cyclist, Christopher Meyer, Killed By Hit & Run Driver Underneath the BQE In Williamsburg

A 32 year-old cyclist, Christopher Meyer, was killed by a hit and run driver underneath the BQE in Williamsburg early Monday morning. Police responded to a 911 call of a person being struck by a vehicle on Meeker Avenue beneath the overpass between Frost Street and Manhattan Avenue at around 3:53 a.m. and found the man lying in the roadway with trauma to his head, his bicycle lying nearby.

The man, whose name has not yet been released, was pronounced dead at Bellevue Hospital.

When a hit and run accidents occur, most people would think there is no way of obtaining compensation for their injuries, or in this case, a death.  However, there are several insurance policies which could apply in these types of situations.  If the bicyclist had his own car or a family member in his household owned a car, their car insurance would cover this loss.  If not, New York’s MVAIC would cover this accident.
