Earlier this week, we told readers about a horrific car accident that claimed the lives of a husband and wife. The expectant couple was on their way to the hospital in a livery car when they were involved in the fatal car accident. We originally reported that the couple’s newborn baby survived the crash. Sadly, the 4-pound child died after being delivered by cesarean section.
The driver of the other vehicle and a passenger fled from the scene of the accident. New York police have identified the suspect. He has a lengthy criminal record, including a recent DWI arrest. Reports indicate that the man plans to turn himself into police.
It is not clear which driver is at fault for the accident. Authorities say the driver that fled the scene was driving around 60 mph. However, the driver of the livery cab had a stop sign, and it isn’t clear whether or not he stopped.
Since the accident it has also been revealed by the city Taxi and Limousine Commission that the car that the young couple was in had not yet been approved to be used as a livery car.
The couple that was killed in the tragic accident were apart of the close-knit Orthodox Jewish community. A community leader publicly pleaded with the hit-and-run driver to come forward.
It can be difficult for family and friends to move on after a fatal accident claims the lives of loved ones. Surviving family members may be given a sense of justice by pursuing a civil lawsuit against the negligent parties.
