Construction workers injured in recent crane collapse

Although construction work is inherently more dangerous than some other jobs, people who work in construction expect that work sites will be safe. Construction workers in New York City and beyond expect to return home safely at the end of the day.

Recently, however, seven construction workers were injured when a crane collapsed in Long Island City. The crane accident happened a little after 2 p.m. Three people suffered serious injuries. Four people suffered only minor injuries.

“The crane moved pretty quickly, then there was a large crash, and pandemonium going on,” a witness said.

It wasn’t immediately clear what caused the crane to collapse. Engineers were at the site shortly after the collapse to investigate what may have led to the accident.

The developer in charge of the site said they were working with officials to determine the cause, adding that maintaining a safe work site is always their number one priority.

The crane was reportedly leased from New York Crane. This isn’t the first time that company has been involved in a crane collapse. A crane from the same company collapsed in 2008, causing some fatal injuries.

A crane accident can leave people with serious injuries. Those injuries may require hospitalization and surgery. Workers may not be able to return to work for a significant amount of time. Sadly, injuries sustained in a crane accident may even prove to be fatal.

Construction workers in New York City who suffer injuries on the job may be able to obtain workers’ compensation benefits. However, if injuries were caused by a third party, victims may obtain compensation through a lawsuit.
