When alcohol is involved, the chances of a car accident occurring increase dramatically. Sometimes, a drunk driving accident will be a single-vehicle incident, involving no victims or injuries. However, many other drunk driving crashes do involve other vehicles, and many may fall victim to the actions of a drunk driver. Injuries and tragic fatalities often result from an encounter with a drunk driver. When this happens, victims and their families have rights.
A recent rear-end car accident in New York left one dead and one injured, according to reports. Following the crash, a woman was facing charges of vehicular manslaughter and driving while intoxicated. Early on a Monday morning, the 28-year-old woman was driving her sedan on an eastbound lane when her vehicle slammed into the back of a car being driven by an 18-year-old man.
As a result of the crash, the woman’s car flipped over, killing a passenger inside. The woman was taken to a nearby hospital and was said to be in stable condition. The 18-year-old driver of the other car was also transported to a nearby hospital. Similarly, he was said to be in stable condition. The 28-year-old woman will now have to combat charges of manslaughter and DWI.
In car accidents that involve another driver who is suspected of DWI, that driver may be found liable for the damages resulting from the accident. In such cases, victims may desire to pursue compensation from the suspected at fault driver, so they can possibly obtain monetary aid to help them cover costs associated with medical expenses and vehicle damages. Though it can never undo the tragedy and heartbreak that victims and their families have had to endure, compensation can at least alleviate some of the financial hurt.
