NEW YORK CITY – Tragedy struck Upper Manhattan’s Inwood area Tuesday afternoon when a construction crane suddenly collapsed. The incident, reported by police to have occurred near the intersection of West 207th Street and Ninth Avenue around 2:25 p.m., resulted in injuries to five individuals. Among the injured, three are reported to have sustained serious injuries, while two others suffered minor injuries. Authorities have assured that none of the injuries are life-threatening.
The crane collapse, which occurred at an active construction site, raises concerns over site safety. Records from the Department of Buildings reveal two unresolved safety violations at this location dating back to December. Notably, a previous incident at the site involved a construction worker being struck by an aluminum beam. This accident coincides with the arrival of a powerful storm in New York City, bringing with it high winds and heavy rains.
