Car Collision Pins Woman To Tree In Central Park

Two pedestrians were hurt after they were struck by two vehicles involved in a collision around Central Park on Tuesday night, officials and witnesses said.

According to reports, a man in a silver Nissan Pathfinder was driving northbound on East 81st Street when he blew through a red light and struck a yellow cab coming westward from the park. The collision caused the cab to careen into a woman and pinned her against a tree.

The SUV’s driver continued driving before striking a second woman and rear-ending an M10 bus, according to reports.

The victim who was pinned to a tree suffered serious leg injuries. The second woman was treated for minor injuries.

When police questioned the SUV driver, he said his brakes malfunctioned. However, investigators did not find any problems when they tested the brakes themselves.

“We think it’s pedal misapplication,” or hitting the gas instead of the brakes, one source told the New York Daily News.

The investigation is ongoing. Police have not yet determined whether the driver will face charges.
